Recently, Amazon launched the Nova AI model family, which introduces its own image generation capabilities. Nonetheless, Baskar Sridharan, Vice President of AI and ML services at AWS, emphasized that providing a variety of models enhances user options.

With Amazon Bedrock, deploying different models becomes straightforward. Users can pick any model available on the platform, utilizing the same API. This seamless flexibility is crucial for enterprises looking to tailor solutions to their unique requirements.

According to Akkaraju, Stable Diffusion 3.5 excels in areas that matter most. Stability AI has released benchmark reports validating this assertion, particularly regarding prompt adherence. “Our research indicates that Stable Diffusion 3.5 Large excels in prompt adherence, allowing models to adhere closely to specified text prompts,” he noted.

Integrating Stable Diffusion 3.5 into Modern AI Workflows

Since late October, Stable Diffusion 3.5 Large has been available via the Stability AI API and the Stable Assistant service. Interestingly, Stability AI reports no considerable cost difference when employing Stable Diffusion through its API versus Amazon Bedrock. The true benefit lies in weaving Stable Diffusion into more complex enterprise workflows.

An excellent example of this integration is seen with the NFL. Their “My Cause, My Cleats” application utilizes Amazon Bedrock, allowing creators to collaboratively design custom cleats. The app employs both Anthropic Claude and Stable Diffusion. Claude generates detailed prompts based on user preferences, subsequently feeding this data to Stable Diffusion for eye-catching image creation. This entire process operates seamlessly within Amazon Bedrock, eliminating the hassle of switching between different services.

Stride Learning also illustrates the benefits of this unified approach. They required a vast quantity of images—up to 1,000 per minute—for their online learning game, Legends Library. Thanks to Amazon Bedrock’s infrastructure, they can scale effectively while ensuring secure image generation through the Amazon Bedrock Guardrails API. This feature aids Stride Learning in maintaining responsible AI practices throughout the image generation sequence.

Sridharan highlighted the simplification this single API brings for developing various applications: “Using a single API endpoint streamlines the process for customers, making it easy to build diverse applications.”

The Future of Stability AI Beyond 2024

The debut of Stable Diffusion 3.5 on Amazon Bedrock marks a pivotal moment for Stability AI after a transformative year. Following the departure of Emad Mostaque, the company took time to find a proper leader, eventually appointing Akkaraju in June. Under his guidance, Stability AI has rolled out several model updates and attracted new investors, including Sean Parker, the founder of Napster, and renowned filmmaker James Cameron.

Akkaraju’s background in visual effects—including experience with blockbusters like Avatar—gives him a unique perspective in this industry. He expressed, “It’s beneficial that we engage with the creative sector, as they tend to be some of our most demanding clients.”
